Laser hair removal – how it works and where to use i
The MeDioStar® laser hair removal principle is based on precisely focused heating of eumelanin pigment in the hair bulbs. This pigment absorbs the laser beam energy, which permanently damages it and subsequently terminates the hair growth. The MeDioStar® machine utilizes a unique combination of 810 nm and 940 nm wavelengths, thus ensuring efficient removal of hairs of various thicknesses and colours, with the exception of white hairs that contain no pigment. Thanks to this combination, the laser is able to hit not only dark, but also lighter hairs, which were problematic for the earlier laser devices.
To achieve a permanent hair removal effect, you need to destroy the hair bulb completely, which can only be achieved during a certain stage of the hair growth. The amount of pigment in each hair changes in the course of its growth. The growing phase takes 6 to 7 weeks and in this interval, the laser treatment must be repeated – usually 3 to 4 times, depending on the hair density, thickness and colour.
When and for whom is the treatment suitable?
The laser treatment is suitable for all skin phototypes (I-VI) and colours, with the exception of hairs entirely without pigment (white). It can remove hairs of any thickness or density.
Skin phototypes:
- I. Very light skin, blond or red hair, freckles, blue or green eyes, entirely without sun tan, but with freckles
- II. Light skin, light hair, freckles, blue or green eyes, often with sun tan, but the tan is only minimal and slow
- III. Dark blond or brown hair, brown eyes, sometimes gets sunburnt; slowly but gradually gets a light-brown tan
- IV. Brown skin, black hair, brown hair, rarely gets sunburnt, quick dark-brown tan
- V. Dark-brown skin, black hair, dark eyes, rarely gets sunburnt, quick dark-brown tan
- VI. Dark-brown or black skin, black hair, black eyes, very rarely gets sunburnt, very quick tan
The best time for laser hair removal is autumn, winter and early spring months when the sunlight intensity is not too high. After a laser hair removal application, the skin should not be exposed to the sunlight in order to avoid undesired pigmentation. Sauna, steam bath or swimming pool are not recommended for the following several days.
Which parts of the body can be treated with the MeDioStar® laser machine?
The laser can remove hairs from virtually any part of the body.
- Leg hair removal: Leg hair removal is one of the most frequent treatments that offers rapid results and lasting effects.
- Facial hair removal: Facial hair removal is particularly popular in areas above the upper lip (female moustache) and the chin. This method is safe and efficient even in this sensitive area.
- Private parts laser hair removal: Laser hair removal in the bikini area or in the entire private areas is becoming increasingly popular among women as well as men. We can achieve smooth skin without pain or irritation thanks to a high treatment comfort.
- Underarm, back and shoulder hair removal: Hair removal in these areas is suitable for men and women who look for a permanent solution without repetitive shaving or painful wax hair removing.
Laser hair removal is most effective for darker hairs, but with the MeDioSTAR® machine, it can also be used for medium-light to light hairs.
The laser therapy cannot be used on mucous membranes, i.e. hairs in the nose or ears.
Laser hair removal process
MeDioStar® is one of the most advanced "Made in Germany" machines. Hair removal using this laser is simple, rapid and comfortable.
Before the treatment
- The skin should not be tanned before the treatment. Avoid the sun and solarium 4 to 6 weeks before the treatment.
- Do not pull out or wax-remove the hairs for at least four weeks before the treatment.
- Do not use self-tanning creams or sprays for at least two weeks before the treatment.
- The skin should not be damaged in any way or suffer from dermatitis.
- Do not use agents containing active substances such as antibiotics or AHA acids for three to five days before the treatment.
- On the treatment day, do not use body lotion or oil; when treating the face, remove the make-up thoroughly.
- The hairs can be removed without the roots – by shaving, using a hair-removal cream or trimmer. The ideal length is 1–3 mm (tangible stubble), not longer; therefore, we recommend shaving the treatment areas as follows: lower legs: 3–5 days before treatment, thighs: 5–7 days before treatment, bikini, private parts, underarms: 1 – 2 days before treatment, chest, abdomen, men's back: 1–2 days before treatment, upper lip, chin: in case of soft hairs (mainly above the upper lip and on the hands), you do not need to remove them, but in case of harder hairs, we recommend trimming them using a PHILIPS oneBLADE hair clipper with the length set to 1- 3 mm.)
Before the treatment, the skin is cooled by a patented dynamic cooling system, which ensures that the treatment is painless. The MeDioStar® technology uses an innovative cooling system that reduces skin temperature throughout the entire procedure, thus eliminating burning or other unpleasant sensations. The intensive cooling has a local anaesthetic effect.
At the same time, this system provides a better protection of the surrounding tissues, so the laser affects only the target area.
Laser hair removal process
- The skin is cleansed and prepared for treatment.
- The laser machine is adjusted according to the skin and hair type.
- During application, the laser emits light pulses that focus on the hair bulbs and gradually destroy them.
- After treatment, the skin can become slightly red, which is a natural reaction and which usually disappears within several hours.
- The laser hair removal results are visible after the first treatment and the hairs gradually start falling out within two weeks.
The treatment can take several minutes up to one hour, depending on the treated area.
Convalescence
After the treatment, the skin can be slightly irritated, but these symptoms usually subside within several hours or days. You should avoid direct sunlight and use high-protection factor creams (SPF 50) to avoid hyperpigmentation or other complications. During the first days after treatment, you should avoid visiting solariums, saunas or swimming pools to prevent skin irritation.
Laser hair removal contraindications
The MeDioStar® laser hair removal is safe but not suitable for everyone. There are several health conditions and factors that may prevent the treatment. These include:
- pregnancy and breast-feeding
- epilepsy
- active skin infections or diseases in the treatment area
- taking light-sensitive medicines (e.g. some antibiotics
- hormonal disorders that can cause excessive hair growth
- hyperpigmentation or tendency to keloidal scars
- oncological disease
Before the treatment, you should always consult your health condition with a specialist who will determine whether the treatment is suitable for you.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
After the first laser treatment, about 80 % of hairs in the treated area stop growing. The remaining hairs, which were not sufficiently pigmented at the time of the treatment because they were in the phase of rest or nucleus, will have to be laser-treated after a certain period, about six to seven weeks. This procedure is repeated three to four times, depending on the individual condition.
Hairs removed by the laser will never grow again.
Laser hair removal: Price list
The price of laser hair removal varies depending on the treated area and the number of sessions. You can find an indicative price list on our website.
Since each client is unique, our specialists will provide a precise price calculation based on your needs and the type of your skin and hairs. The laser treatment is a long-lasting investment because hairs that have once been removed will never grow again. As a result, you will not have to spend money on other, i.e. temporary hair removal activities such as shaving or wax hair removal.

How does laser hair removal work?
- The laser hair removal method is based on absorption of the light beam by eumelanin pigment in the hair bulbs. These bulbs are subsequently heated and permanently damaged, so their growth is terminated.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
